TONY HERNANDEZ

Summer Fellow, Economic Security & Opportunity Initiative
Antonio (Tony) Hernandez is a Summer Fellow at the Georgetown Center on Poverty & Inequality’s Economic Security & Opportunity Initiative. Tony provides research and writing assistance on various projects, focusing on behavioral health, federal economic security programs, and reproductive justice. Previously, Tony served the constituents of Texas’s 35th Congressional District as an intern with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.

Tony graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s degree in Government and Rhetoric and Writing in 2018. His research experience includes a study on the effects of racial bias and socio-economic status on the quality of health care. Tony has mentored incoming students through UT’s Leadership and Ethics Institute, worked as a Writing Consultant at UT’s Undergraduate Writing Center, and registered eligible voters in Travis County through Texas Rising, a student organization. Tony also served as a GLAAD campus ambassador and advocated for LGBTQIA+ visibility and rights, and increased access to HIV/STI testing in low income communities. Tony is an HSF-Gates Millennium Scholar, Phi Beta Kappa member, Archer Fellow alum, and a CHCI alum.
